\nThis summer the Olympic Games will be held in London the capital of England. Many people watch the Olympic events in which teams from countries compete. Each Olympics there is an opening ceremony during which the Olympic flame is carried through the streets of the host city and arrives at the stadium as a climax to the event. This flame was lit in the birthplace of the Olympics, Olympia, Greece and was carried by several athletes over the course of weeks to reach its destination. Each Olympic Games the host country tries to provide a spectacular opening ceremony, and much secrecy surrounds the planning. Read the article below for some of the details that have leaked out regarding London\u2019s opening ceremony.

\nWalt Disney's Donald Duck was used to spread the word about income tax and how to fill out the out the sheet. To make shure people did this they portrayed Donald Duck as a patriot who would do anything for his country.
\nI think the income tax is fair because it paysfor things you take for granted every day like roads and yes public restrooms. In Europe you have to pay to use a public restroom. Instead of nickleing and diming you they just average the stuff you use plus the extra they need to protect you and make you pay one large sum of money.

Also, the size would be smaller so you can maximize the titles you see when searching. You get to socialize with neighbors you never would have talked to before. On the other hand, you won't experience quite as many books. Little Libraries are based on the honor system and it is no lie that there are people out there with no honor.
\nA few different buildings throughout one's community can be converted into a Little Library. Old tool sheds would be great, along with any smaller run-down houses. A little nook of a dilapidated old coffee shop would be a prime place for a Little Library. It just takes a few people to give up some time and a few books to make these Little Libraries work.","dateCreated":"1331653697","smartDate":"Mar 13, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"g6Logan","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/g6Logan","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1253288988\/g6Logan-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"51750068","body":"A series of Little Free Libraries is definitely a better idea than a large town library. Little Free Libraries are usually very convenient, as they are open to public access. They can be placed everywhere there is open space- say, for example, on a small wooden enclosure on a birdhouse-pole in someone's yard. But that isn't the only place they can be. As I said, anywhere with empty space- sheds, porches, garages, the possibilities are endless. Having them be based on the "take a book, leave a book" honors system is also a good way to teach young children about honesty in their lives. The only real drawback is the fact that you wouldn't have access to as many books as you would in a large, public library- which are great things to have in a community, don't get me wrong. With a monitor making sure that no "hazardous material" gets left in their Little Free Library, just one will serve people in its community with great books as long as it stands.","dateCreated":"1331823276","smartDate":"Mar 15, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"g6Eric","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/g6Eric","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1255102717\/g6Eric-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"52746608","body":"Some good things about having a little library is that you can read books for free and you can take them out as long as you want without having to pay a late fee. It also might help you find someone with similar interests. Say you read a book and really like it and you see a person bringing it back a week later. You strike up a conversation and your good friends from that day forward.
\nThere are many problems that also come with having free librarys. No doubt books will get stolen and there is nothing you can do about it because you can not track who last had it. Also if a person takes a book out and forgets about it so after a while the amount of books would deminish. There is also no way to find a particular book you want to read and if there are hundredsof little librarys it will take days to find it. Also questionable material might also be available if that type of book is able to be taken home and read by an immiture but literarily inclined reader. This might cause problems and removal of some books which would make adult readers unhappy because some very good novels have these little blurps of questionable material. One for example would be Tom Sawyer.
\nI think little librarys are a bad idea and a community library would be a better approach because books are less likelyto be lost or stolen and readers would find appropriate sections that suit their maturity level with their reading level.","dateCreated":"1334105618","smartDate":"Apr 10, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"gJackS","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/gJackS","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]},{"id":"51096254","dateCreated":"1330534183","smartDate":"Feb 29, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"Cronk_H","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Cronk_H","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/8thgifted.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/51096254"},"dateDigested":1532145419,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"02\/29 This week's discussion question","description":"March 14th is the beginning of the late spring stock market game (THIS IS DURING MP 4). It is ridiculous how close Forster got to predicting today's world.","dateCreated":"1329843229","smartDate":"Feb 21, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"g6Logan","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/g6Logan","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1253288988\/g6Logan-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"50748360","body":"In 103 years, baseball will be totally eliminated. The game is too slow for people then to watch. Instead, fantasy sports won't just be setting your lineup, but indeed stepping into a module and becoming your idol players and competing against buddies who are also becoming those players. Cars probably won't resemble cars. Our airspace will be so much more crowded that they have to have red lights in midair. Driving cars then will be like riding a riding a bike for miles now, only good for exercise. With technology increasing exponentially, the world will be quite crazy.","dateCreated":"1329843515","smartDate":"Feb 21, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"g6Logan","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/g6Logan","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1253288988\/g6Logan-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"50793862","body":"1. The parts of this story relate to real life for a couple of reasons. First, the plate flashed blue, and there must have been some strange type of electricity dealing with it.
\n2. In 103 years I do not think that there will be "hover crafts" and all of that other stuff people think will happen. I think that everything we have now will be much more advanced, and more complicated. Also, I think that kids will have to learn much faster in school, because even now kids have to learn Algebra 2 in 8th grade. I do think that the US will be a much worse place than it is now, too. Canada and more of Europe will become more populated, and I see the world becoming gradually worse over time.","dateCreated":"1329929704","smartDate":"Feb 22, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"g6Spencer","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/g6Spencer","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1327595485\/g6Spencer-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"51301242","body":"There are many excerpts from this story that relate to modern-day terms. At first it explains a room with no lamps but there is light, and no instruments but music. This could mean iPods and electric lighting. Also a plate that shows people from across the world could be an iPad or such. In 103 years I believe food will be very different as they will have developed pure supplements for maximum health. Almost everything will be artificial. It will be interesting to see what happens.","dateCreated":"1330966853","smartDate":"Mar 5, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"g6Samuel","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/g6Samuel","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1254151432\/g6Samuel-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"52747332","body":"The story tells a pretty accurate descption as to what some our social world is like today. Some people never leave their homes and are afraid of the outside. The world today accomidates these people. The food button is takeout and the literature button is the purchase button on your nook or kindle. If travel did not become easier people would not want to travel long distances to see loved ones while they could see them on the screne. The enjoyment in life is taken care of by TV or the internet. There really is no need to go outside into the real world.
\nI think in 103 years people will unfortunatel desroy themselves or their environment and hide themselves from danger in their bubble.If they desroyed the beautiful things on earth there would be no need to take trips and people will be sitting in their bubble all alone forever. Technology is good but afterit reaches a certain point it make life sad and pointless. I think the future will be bleak if some directions aren't changed.","dateCreated":"1334106951","smartDate":"Apr 10, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"gJackS","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/gJackS","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]},{"id":"50296042","dateCreated":"1328802904","smartDate":"Feb 9, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"Cronk_H","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/Cronk_H","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"},"monitored":false,"locked":false,"links":{"self":"https:\/\/8thgifted.wikispaces.com\/share\/view\/50296042"},"dateDigested":1532145420,"startDate":null,"sharedType":"discussion","title":"02\/10 This week's discussion question","description":"Facebook has made the news again recently with the announcement that they will be going public soon (offering shares for sale on the stock exchange). While the company has a lot to offer it still has some major obstacles to overcome. Listen to the podcast or read the article on NPR. Facebooks \u201cAchilles Heel\u201d revolves around advertising on its mobile app, privacy of users and the wealth of their young employees. Please fully explain the challenges that Facebook has to overcome. Would you buy stock in Facebook if you could?

Perhaps I would short sell it for much later in the future...","dateCreated":"1328891991","smartDate":"Feb 10, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"g6Logan","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/g6Logan","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1253288988\/g6Logan-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"50441036","body":"Facebook can't get into international privacy issues. Millions of people all over the world use it and unless something catastrophic happens it will continue to improve. It also has the privacy issue of people and their information being leaked. On 2nd thought there are more possibilities of possible mishaps or more sites coming into the scene to safely invest in Facebook.","dateCreated":"1329153629","smartDate":"Feb 13, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"g6Samuel","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/g6Samuel","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1254151432\/g6Samuel-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"50441714","body":"Adding to my report, Facebook bigwigs fear that their young employees will become too rich too quickly and retire leaving Facebook constantly searching for new workers.","dateCreated":"1329153978","smartDate":"Feb 13, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"g6Samuel","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/g6Samuel","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1254151432\/g6Samuel-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"50441812","body":"Adding to my report, Facebook owners fear that if people make money too fast they will get bored and no use it anymore.","dateCreated":"1329154049","smartDate":"Feb 13, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"gMaryP","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/gMaryP","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}},{"id":"50442134","body":"Facebook worries that the young, rich employees have so much money at such an early age that they can already retire. While ads can be annoying to users, it would profit Facebook to start putting ads out there. The markets where it needs to grow are dominated by mobile devices. They also have to deal with privacy problems to keep users' trust while appealing to advertisers. In addition to that, executors of Facebook are worried that as their top workers get rich, they won't want to work anymore because they already have more money than they know what to do with. They need these employees to help them find a way to make lots of money off of ads while still maintaining the trust of their customers. I probably wouldn't buy a stock in Facebook because I think it would be risky to invest in such a huge social networking system. As everyone else said, new social networking systems pop up all the time and could very well replace Facebook or make it lose popularity.","dateCreated":"1329839744","smartDate":"Feb 21, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"g6Allison","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/g6Allison","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/pic\/1273504401\/g6Allison-lg.jpg"}},{"id":"52745882","body":"First of all Facebook must over come the mobile phone problem where they aren't making any money. I would think the best solution is to have pop ups that you can X out of when enter a new page. That would get a lot of revenue going. Despite the anoyance of having to X out of adds it is faster than logging onto the computer. I don't think the overall usage of mobile phone on facebook would change too much. As of the security issue I think the best thing Facebook could do without severely changing the company would be to crack down on hackers and get more internet security. One of the best things Facebook did was to pay people to give away hacks and cheats to get into other Facebooks accounts. To change the laxed perspective on working with Facebook you could do many things. First you could pay particular worked less and give them huge bonus' for coming up with good ideas. You could also hire young people who use Facebook a lot to give ideas for money. As for right now I wouldn't because there is a lot of talk about which social network is better. Facebook is not slowing down but other social networks are speeding up and itmight not be top dog soon.","dateCreated":"1334104424","smartDate":"Apr 10, 2012","userCreated":{"username":"gJackS","url":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/user\/view\/gJackS","imageUrl":"https:\/\/www.wikispaces.com\/i\/user_none_lg.jpg"}}],"more":0}]}],"more":true},"comments":[]},"http":{"code":200,"status":"OK"},"redirectUrl":null,"javascript":null,"notices":{"warning":[],"error":[],"info":[],"success":[]}}
